The GORP Act Photo Contest is now closed.

Thank you to all our participants who submitted photos!

Congratulations to the 1st Place Winners!

1st Place Wildlife: Peter Sandifer

“Taken at dawn on Wetterhorn Peak in Colorado’s San Juan Mountains, this photo shows a marmot perched above treeline beside blooming columbines, overlooking the valley below. Our protected public lands sustain wildlife and clean water while inspiring wonder and a sense of belonging. I support GORP’s protections for the Gunnison Basin because I want others, now and for generations to come, to have access to the places that so deeply move and inspire me.” —Peter Sandifer

1st Place Scenic & Working Lands: Xavier Fane

“The evening before I had camped out on top Schuykill Ridge above the Slate River with the intention in mind of getting a special shot. It was a rather rainy night, with passing showers, but at sunrise next day the alchemy happened and the sun shone on this moisture laden, primordial scene of the Slate River Valley. I support the GORP Act because it prioritizes the protection and conservation of our wildlife-rich open spaces, restricting gas and oil development while honoring the importance of recreation and agricultural use in the land.” —Xavier Fane

1st Place People in the Gunnison Basin: Lauren Herbine

“This picture was taken on night two of a mini-backpack trip that my partner and our dog (pictured) took in July, starting at the Dark Canyon trailhead and meandering our way over passes back to our home in Crested Butte. We had Democrat Basin all to ourselves and enjoyed a quiet, contemplative post-dinner sunset gazing session. The GORP Act is important to us because it protects critical headwaters of the Colorado River, restricts new oil and gas leasing in sensitive zones like the North Fork Valley Watershed, and preserves vital wildlife habitats. We want to be able to enjoy these quiet, awe-inspiring places for the rest of our lives, and want our children and grandchildren to be able to do the same. Living at the headwaters also makes us deeply aware that what happens here affects the health of ecosystems and communities far downstream.” —Lauren Herbine
