Photo Contest: The GORP Act is Homegrown Conservation for the Gunnison Basin

Show us your best shots! Wish a CA$H or Visa Gift Card Prize!

(Gunnison, Colo. 2/24/2026) Today, the Gunnison Outdoor Resources Protection (GORP) Act coalition launched a photo contest and invites submissions through May 20, 2026.

The Gunnison Basin’s public and working lands that are part of the GORP Act, the wildlife and the people who live, work and recreate here are subjects worthy of a thousand pictures.

Now one adult and one youth winner (must be 18 years of age or younger) will receive a cash (or Visa gift card) prize in each of three categories. Each participant is eligible to win one prize total. If a participant submits photos in multiple categories, only the highest-ranking prize will be awarded. The categories are:

●      Scenic & Working Lands: Photos featuring landscapes within one of the proposed GORP Act designations.

●      Wildlife: Photos of wildlife captured within one of the proposed GORP Act designations.

●      People in and around the Gunnison Basin: Photos showing one or more people recreating, working, or enjoying public lands in and around the Gunnison Basin

Submit your photos by May 20th, 2026 for a chance to win cash or Visa gift cards and have your work featured across GORP Act communications!

Contestants should review all guidelines, usage rights and important details at https://www.gorpact.org/photo-contest before submitting photos.

Photos submitted in the Scenic & Working Lands and in the Wildlife categories must be captured within one of the proposed GORP Act designations.

Locate and learn more about the designations in your area by visiting https://www.gorpact.org/explore-the-designations, which includes an interactive map and additional descriptions.

The GORP Act is locally-derived and broadly-supported public lands legislation that would protect outdoor resources, access, wildlife habitat, watershed health and the quality of the natural environment in and around the Gunnison Basin of Western Colorado.

Winners will be announced in June. Good luck. We can’t wait to see your photos!
